What is SEO?

“SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, which is the practice of increasing the quantity and quality of traffic to your website through organic search engine results.”

Moz

Here are some resources that we’ve written and referenced in the webinar:

On-Page SEO

CONTENT CONTENT CONTENT!

How well your content is optimised for relevant keywords and subject matter.

Off-Page SEO

Who is linking to your site?

Links from authority sites are worth A LOT and act as a vote for your authority.

Off-Page SEO helps search engines trust your website.

Technical SEO

Focuses on how well search engine spiders can crawl your site and index your content.

Ranking Factors

Getting your SEO right is like cooking a great meal.

While we’ll never be privy to the detailed algorithms that Google use, there are a lot of ‘ranking factors’ that will never change.

Optimising your website for these ranking factors is imperative to ranking higher in Google and other search engines.

Just doing one or two of these things won’t do too much, but a consolidated effort with regular checks, and you should be cooking with gas.

On-Page SEO

Here’s an article we wrote about On-Page SEO.

On-Page SEO Tools

Once you have your new keywords, try to find a balance of:

  • Low competition
  • High volume of search terms
  • Value to your content

Image Compression Tools

Here’s an article from us about optimising images for improved SEO.

Off-Page SEO

Here’s an article about Off-Page SEO that we recently updated.

  • Link building
  • No Black Hat SEO
  • PR PR PR
  • Backlinks
  • Internal links
  • Blogger outreach
  • Guest posting/podcasts
  • Social sharing
  • Google My Business

Some backlink checkers:

Technical SEO

Technical SEO is about the technical side of your website and, unlike On-Page and Off-Page SEO, has nothing to do with your content.

Here’s a very in-depth article from us that covers everything we look at in the webinar.

Other Technical SEO Tools

SEO Crawlers and Auditors

Website Auditor

Website Auditor from Link Assistant is what we use, and it is fantastic.

It’s FREE unless you want to save and compare data (which is pretty handy).

They offer a whole suite of SEO products which are expensive, but worth it (in our opinion).

Screaming Frog

Screaming Frog is very similar – is also installable software and has a free tier.

SEMrush

SEMrush is similar but web-based & expensive on a subscription model.

Where do I start with my own SEO?

  • Write great content.
  • Publicise your product or services – tell the right people how good it is and get organic traffic.
  • Be active on social media- choose the socials that fit your niche (don’t forget about LinkedIn).
  • Work with an agency if you need to in the short term (this is not a long-term solution).
  • Get tech skills or partner with someone who does.
  • SEO needs to be managed like a car needs to be serviced. Let it go and it will break down. If spending money is not your idea of fun, then learn to do it yourself.
